How to stop WhatsApp from sharing your data with Facebook

With the whole controversy around Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data leak still brewing, there is a growing awareness about how much and what kind of data is being shared online. Users who were earlier unaware are now getting a bit more vigilant. Recently, Facebook-owned WhatsApp was too under the scanner for allegedly sharing information with its parent company. WhatsApp responded to this by saying that it collects "very little data" of its users and "every message is end-to-end encrypted."

But there is a way for users to choose not to share their account information with Facebook. This shared information is said to improve Facebook ads and products experiences. Here are two ways to stop sharing your WhatsApp information with Facebook:

Option 1

As soon as you download WhatsApp, you will be asked to 'Agree' to accept their updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. But before you do, tap Agree and then tap on 'read more.' Once you do that, you will find a control at the bottom of the screen, which you can uncheck if you do not want your account information shared with Facebook.

Option 2

This option comes in the picture if you have already agreed to WhatsApp's terms and policies but now want to change that.

But this works only for 30 days. Do this by going to Settings > Account > Share my account info in the app. If you do not want your account information shared with Facebook to improve your Facebook ads and products experiences, you can uncheck the box or toggle the control.

Readers must note that WhatsApp states in its blog that they still share your information with Facebook. It says, "The Facebook family of companies will still receive and use this information for other purposes such as improving infrastructure and delivery systems, understanding how our services or theirs are used, securing systems, and fighting spam, abuse, or infringement activities."

New Android Folding Phone Could Beat Samsung

Samsung and Apple are facing competition on the foldable phone front from Chinese Android manufacturer Huawei this year, according to a new report. Citing sources familiar with Huawei’s plans, Korean news publication  ETNews  claims that Huawei is preparing to launch a true foldable phone this November. The date is important because the report suggests that Huawei is launching the device this early with the specific goal of beating Samsung, other Android manufacturers  and  Apple to be the first company to create a fully flexible smartphone. If that’s accurate then it could be bad news for a bigger player like Samsung, which typically prides itself on being first to deliver innovative technology. Also, the concept of a foldable phone – for those that take an interest – is largely aligned with Samsung because of  that  demo  back in 2013. It would be quite the victory for Huawei to usurp Samsung’s crown. But being first isn’t necessarily go...

Motorola Moto G6 Plus spotted on GeekBench, rocking a Snapdragon 660 chipset

After a few quite  extensive leaks , it really did seem like there was little more to learn about Motorola's upcoming Moto G6 family. However, after both the  Moto G6  and the  Moto G6 Play made their respective  pits tops  at  GeekBench , today the  G6 Plus  joined their ranks as well, with a slight twist. Instead of the Snapdragon 630, it was widely believed to utilize, according toe the benchmark, the tested unit was running a Snapdragon 660, at 2.21 GHz. That being said, the actual test scores themselves don't exactly pan out, since we would expect at least 5000+ multi-core points from said silicon. Still, it could be a case of early and unoptimized software. If the information does check out, it would entail a not entirely insignificant performance boost for the G6 Plus, from what was originally expected. As far as other alleged specs for the handset go, we expect a 5.93-inch, 18:9 screen with Full HD+ resolution, 4GB of RAM, as r...

ZTE Tempo Go On this list, you’ll generally find phones that range from around $100 up to about $500. Of course, sometimes even less expensive phones are needed, but we’ve often avoided listing those because, well, really cheap Android phones are generally pretty terrible. Google is trying to fix that, though, with the  arrival of Android Go , and the ZTE Tempo Go is one of the first phones landing with that version of Google’s OS. The ZTE Tempo Go is a  very  cheap device by all standards. Pricing lands at just $80 for the unlocked model, something that can’t be said about many devices on the market today.
